To the Muskoka Lakes Chamber of Commerce:

On March 23, the Ontario government released a list of services that are deemed essential and will not be forced to shut down. We at Vision Contracting Ltd were surprised and somewhat dismayed to see so many businesses included on this list of essential services.

While we fully understand the important role that many such businesses play, we urge Muskoka Lakes business owners to seriously consider if their operations are truly “essential” right now. Please, let’s all honestly reflect on whether business as usual is creating an unacceptable risk during a global pandemic.

With this in mind, despite not currently being mandated to shutter our operations, Vision Contracting Ltd has decided to take a bold stance and pause our site operations for two weeks.

As a business leader in Muskoka Lakes, the decision wasn’t easy. We carefully balanced our company’s capacity to take this break with the needs and expectations of our clients and our crews. We are fortunate to be in the position to make this move to promote health across our broader community.

We are so grateful for the understanding and positive feedback from our incredible clients, our employees and our peers. And we are proud that our decision will keep our team safe while also allowing them to access provincial supports. Truly, it is an unprecedented time when such action is met with gratitude, respect and a collective sigh of relief.

Many of our peers are making similar moves. Kudos! Each of us has different risks and challenges to weigh. But whatever moves you make; let’s all be part of the solution. Let’s remember that our choices could truly make the difference between life and death. Let’s focus on the health of our whole community.

To our clients, crew and peers: thank you all so much for your support in this difficult decision. To the Muskoka Lakes Chamber of Commerce: thank you for being such an important resource to the community, especially in this challenging time.

We should all be proud of our collective leadership. We will get through this together.

Yours in health,

Scott Parsons and Steve Kirkpatrick
Vision Contracting Ltd.
