SUMMARY:EXPLORE Graphic Novels Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Location: Chapel Gallery\, 15 King Street\, Bracebridge\, ON \nDate: Saturday\, April 11th\, 2026\nTime: 9:30 am to 12:30 pm\nAges: 13 and up\nPrice: $55 for MA&C Members / $75 for Non-Members \nIn this introductory workshop\, participants will explore what makes graphic novels unique as a storytelling medium – looking at how images\, panels\, pacing\, and text work together to build compelling narratives. Marianne will share examples and insights from the world of graphic novels before guiding attendees through simple exercises to create their own short visual stories. Whether you love reading comics and graphic novels\, or are curious about making your own\, this workshop offers a welcoming space to experiment with drawing\, storytelling\, and the fundamentals of graphic novel creation. \nMaterials will be provided\, but participants are also encouraged to bring their own drawing tools. \nAfter graduating from the Ontario College of Art and Design\, Marianne Boucher spent 30 years working as a court illustrator in Toronto\, covering crime stories for a television station. In 2020\, her adult memoir and graphic novel\, Talking to Strangers\, was published by Penguin Random House and recognized by CBC as one of the best Canadian comics of the year. Her second graphic novel\, Survival of the Goodest\, which explores animal sentience\, interspecies communication\, and environmental preservation\, was published by Conundrum Press in the fall of 2024. Having recently returned to northern Ontario\, Marianne has found the energy and space to re-engage with her passion for painting. \nTo register click here.

SUMMARY:Annual Polar Plunge Fundraiser in Port Carling
DESCRIPTION:Residents across Muskoka are being invited to take an icy dip this spring in support of palliative care services. Hospice Muskoka is preparing for its second annual Plunge for Palliative Care fundraiser\, set to take place Saturday\, April 11\, 2026. \nThe event will begin at 1 p.m. at the public dock at the end of West Street in Port Carling. Participants will gather to brave the cold waters together while raising money to support compassionate end-of-life care for individuals and families across the region. \nOrganizers say the fundraiser aims to build on the success of last year’s event while raising $14\,000 to help fund Hospice Muskoka’s programs and services. The organization provides support to individuals facing life-limiting illness\, as well as grief and bereavement services for families throughout Muskoka. \nParticipants can register as individuals or as part of a team. Those taking part are encouraged to collect pledges and sponsorships from friends\, family and community members to help reach the fundraising goal. \nWhile the main plunge will take place in Port Carling\, organizers say participants who are unable to attend in person can still get involved by completing their plunge at a location of their choice. Following the Port Carling plunge\, participants are invited to warm up and gather at Andy’s House. \nThe event is open to a wide range of participants\, but organizers note that anyone under the age of 18 must bring identification and be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nHospice Muskoka relies heavily on community fundraising and donations to support its programs. Funds raised through events like the polar plunge help ensure residents have access to palliative care resources\, including in-home support\, grief counselling and caregiver assistance. \nRegistration for the Plunge for Palliative Care fundraiser is now open HERE.
