SUMMARY:Muskoka Authors Association Presents Tall Pine Tales 2024 - Bracebridge
DESCRIPTION:Muskoka Authors Association invites the community to the third and fourth installments of 11th Annual TALL PINE TALES\, the last of four exciting evenings of public readings featuring talented published and novice writers from Muskoka. The brainchild of Melody Richardson\, the events continue to be planned and organized to keep alive her dream of supporting and promoting local writers. From historic fiction to poetry\, humourous personal accounts to suspense-filled short stories and excerpts from novels\, attendees will enjoy jam-packed evenings of entertainment.  Refreshments will be served. \nDebut author of her nature-inspired anthology\, VIEWS FROM THE EDGE OF THE EARTH\, Wendie Donabie\, will MC in Bracebridge. \nEntry is by donation with proceeds supporting the purchase of books and supplies for the host libraries. \nThe next events take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday\, October 3 at the new Bracebridge Public Library\, located just past the Independent Grocer on Salmon Avenue. \nFor more information and updates\, watch the Muskoka Authors Association FACEBOOK page or contact Wendie Donabie at 705-646-3663.

DESCRIPTION:Join public educator Julie S. Lalonde for a two-hour interactive presentation on bystander intervention to create safer spaces for all. Together you’ll discuss the barriers to intervening in smaller communities and workplaces\, and help create a toolkit of ways that you can step up when witnessing hate or harassment. \nAbout the Trainer: \nJulie S. Lalonde is an internationally recognized women’s rights advocate and public educator. Franco-Ontarienne from Northern Ontario\, she is based in Ottawa. For the last two decades\, Julie has been working to improve the lives of women and girls in Canada with a focus on engaging bystanders to create communities of support. She has presented her work in six countries across four continents in two languages. Her memoir Resilience is Futile: The Life and Death and Life of Julie S. Lalonde won the 2020 Ontario Speaker’s award and was named one of the best books of the year by CBC Books and the Hill Times. Julie has won numerous awards for her advocacy work and is a recipient of the Governor General’s Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case. \nWhen: Tuesday\, October 29\, 2024 \nTime: 1:00pm – 3:00pm \nWhere: This training will be held via ZOOM.
