SUMMARY:Orillia Silver Band Fall Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Orillia Silver Band returns to the Gravenhurst Opera House on October 20\, 2019\, for a Fall Concert that is sure to entertain. Conducted by Neil Barlow\, well known in Muskoka music circles\, the band will open the concert with Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s The Light Fantastic\, encapsulating the grandeur and spirit of the 2008 Olympic Games whilst also paying homage to the host city of Beijing. The band will also be performing John William’s march\, Midway\, an exciting tune called A Redbridge Raga by Chris Wilcox – which is a mix of modern British pop with Indian folk music elements – and selections from Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt. \nAlso on the program is Steven Verhelst’s beautiful\, A Song for Japan and Alan Fernie’s arrangement of Italian Love Song. The band will wrap up the concert with Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture\, complete with cannons\, bells\, and other special effects.

DESCRIPTION:The #Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group will be holding a public listening session on Thursday\, January 23\, 2020\, from 2:30 to 5 pm at the Port Carling Community Centre. \nThe purpose of the listening session is to give community members an opportunity to provide their perspectives on issues within the watershed\, which can help inform the advisory group’s advice. All are welcome to attend. \nWhile the work of the Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group will include consideration of water levels and flows\, the broader focus of the session will be on watershed health. \nThe Muskoka Watershed Advisory Group will be conducting a series of further outreach sessions with municipal leaders\, Indigenous communities and other community organizations throughout the Muskoka Watershed area in early 2020.

DESCRIPTION:Join us to experience a 15 piece orchestra playing music from Cab Calloway\, Nat King Cole\, Louis Armstrong to Billy Joel\, Chicago\, and The Beatles and many more! \nTickets are $20.00 available on Eventbrite. \nThe Bala Legion is working with the Glen Orchard Public School on a National Unity fundraiser. The school is twinning with a grade 7-8 class in Yorktown Saskatchewan for an exchange program. Students from Yorktown will enjoy a week in Ontario\, taking in many events and making new friends\, while our grade 7-8 students will travel to Saskatchewan to learn about life in the Prairies. A portion of the proceeds from our events at the Legion are going to help raise the estimated $30\,000 needed to cover the costs of this program. Please join us in giving these kids an experience of a lifetime and promoting Canadian unity by supporting your Legion. Cheers!
