SUMMARY:James Gray New Album Release at Duke's Live Music
DESCRIPTION:James Gray Album Release Tour\nFriday\, October 10th\, 2025\nDoors and Bar open 7pm\, show starts 8pm \nThis will be the first show of a new album release tour\, and a great way to kick off the thanksgiving weekend! \nJames Gray is a contemporary version of an old-school traveling folk singer. In the past decade\, Gray has toured Canada\, Europe and Australia\, seeing the world and sharing his beloved songs along the way. \nA unique finger style guitarist\, with a vocal that is hauntingly beautiful\, Gray\, often accompanied by a rather droll\, humorous stage patter\, immerses himself in each and every song with a soulfulness and attack that is infectious and disarming. With a broad grin and good natured chuckle\, Gray will often smile into the microphone and state matter of factly that he wants you to remember who he is. \nWhen the pandemic began and everything had suddenly stopped\, it felt like the world could use some connecting. This pause sparked the inspiration for Gray’s third album entitled “New Friends That Talk Like Old Friends”. This collection of songs born in His tiny Muskoka cabin is a reflection of the incredible people and experiences that James has come across in his travels. \nGalvanized by the idea to speak to the human condition through the creation and delivery of song\, Gray drew from his deep love of legendary songwriters such as John Prine\, Townes Van Zandt\, Gillian Welch\, to guide him throughout the project. James believes these songwriters honed the ability to teach the listener about themselves and to open up that part of themselves they didn’t know already existed. Gray firmly holds this to be the ultimate goal of being a songwriter. \nNotably\, James has been a musical guest at TED Talks held on the west coast of Canada. Music from his three albums receives regular airplay on CBC radio programs including Fresh Air with Nana Aba Duncan and Ontario Morning with Wei Chen. He has garnered extensive airplay regionally and throughout Canada. \nIn 2019 James won himself a spot at The Mariposa Folk Festival through their showcase auditions. James has since been invited to perform at 5 Mariposa folk events\, The Northern Lights Festival Boreal and the Muskoka Music Festival in James’ home of central/northern Ontario. \nDoors open at 7pm\, music starts at 8pm. \nParking is available behind Duke’s\, along James Bartleman Way and along the main road in town.

SUMMARY:Gilded Eden: A Celebration of Art\, Nature\, and Transformation
DESCRIPTION:Muskoka artists Col Mitchell and Wendie Donabie invite the public into a shimmering world of imagination and reflection with their upcoming exhibition\, Gilded Eden\, at MAC on Main Gallery\, October 24 to November 9\, 2025. Visitors are warmly welcomed to the opening reception on Saturday\, October 25\, from 4-7 PM. Guests are encouraged to come gilded. \nGilded Eden is a shared vision: a sanctuary where beauty and fragility converge. The exhibition invites visitors to cherish the natural world’s living riches while reflecting on what may be lost. Featuring an array of ink on sculpted paper works\, paintings\, mixed media\, and textile work the show is both luminous and urgent\, inviting visitors to see Earth’s creatures and landscapes as treasures to be cherished. \nCol Mitchell presents her internationally recognized Pen and Ink on Sculpted Paper technique\, alongside three-dimensional mixed media and installation pieces. Her layered surfaces evoke the resilience and vulnerability of the natural world\, merging imagination with transformation. \nWendie Donabie\, acting as both observer and interpreter\, contributes paintings\, collage\, and mixed media works that echo her concern for species survival and habitat loss. Her prose and poetry\, woven throughout the exhibition\, respond directly to artworks and the theme\, creating a dialogue of image and word. \n  “It’s a celebration of the wonder of our natural world\,” says Mitchell. “The works are an invitation to pause and imagine how wonder might guide us as caretakers of Earth’s living treasures.”\n“Gilded Eden is both luminous and urgent\,” adds Donabie. “It asks us to reflect on what we cherish\, and what we cannot afford to lose.” \nMotifs throughout the exhibition include: \n·         Gold and silver: luminous symbols of Earth’s majesty rather than commodities to exploit. \n·         Gemstone-inspired details: suggesting the brilliance of nature’s living jewels. \n·         Shades of pink: a gentle reminder of fragility\, and the planet’s vulnerability. \n·         Shells: whispering of what vanishes when ecosystems are overlooked. \nThis collaboration marks a meaningful union of two established Muskoka artists whose distinct practices share a deep reverence for the Earth. Together\, they offer an immersive and unforgettable experience. Where wonder meets warning and beauty becomes a call to action. \nEvent Details \n·         Exhibition Dates: October 24 – November 9\, 2025 (Artists present throughout) \n  \n·         Opening Reception: Saturday\, October 25\, 4 – 7 PM
