Celebrate National Canoe Day at the Muskoka Discovery Centre on Friday, June 26 with a special 1:00 p.m. presentation included with MDC admission.
This presentation explores the history, craftsmanship and cultural significance of the canoe in Canada. Learn how Indigenous Peoples developed and used canoes throughout the boreal forest, and how these remarkable vessels connected communities, supported trade and travel, and helped shape the country we know today.
Guests will also discover the art and skill behind traditional canoe building, including birch bark and canvas canoes, and the lasting legacy of a craft that continues to be an important part of Canada’s story.
