Reading the World: The Case for Geographic Literacy in Education
September 16 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join the Muskoka Discovery Centre for the final presentation in its Summer Lecture Series on Wednesday, September 16 from 10am to 12pm.
In this live lecture, Dr. Gary Pluim explores why education should go beyond reading, writing and mathematics to include the ability to “read the world.” Through maps, place and geographic knowledge, participants will consider how geographic literacy can help learners better understand culture, politics and the forces shaping our lives.
The session is designed to spark curiosity, conversation and lifelong learning, and is open to all ages. Refreshments and a Question & Answer session are included. Guests are encouraged to bring their favourite mug, with tea, coffee and light treats available.
